You will join the Core Payments squad — a tight group of six engineers, one PM and one designer who own the rails behind two of Africa's largest mobile money processors. The team ships behind-the-scenes infrastructure that moves north of $400M per month, with strict latency, idempotency and reconciliation guarantees.
We pair-program on hard problems, write detailed RFCs before big changes, and rotate on-call evenly. The squad is fully async-first and meets synchronously only twice a week — once for planning, once for a casual demo.
What you'll do

Reduce p99 latency on our settlement service from 280ms to under 100ms in your first six months
Design and ship a new event-sourced ledger that becomes the source of truth for three customer products
Lead the migration of two legacy Node services to Go without taking a customer outage
Set and enforce the team's testing, observability and error-budget standards through code review and lunch-and-learns
Mentor two mid-level engineers, including running architecture reviews and career conversations
Be the technical lead on quarterly customer technical reviews with our two largest fintech customers

Compensation
Transparent, top-of-market, and adjusted thoughtfully for region of residence.
$85K – $130K
$85K – $130K base salary, calibrated to seniority and region of residence
Stock options
0.05% – 0.15% in stock options, four-year vesting with a one-year cliff
Performance
Annual performance bonus targeting 10% of base, paid in cash

We speak with two professional references, then send you a written offer with full comp breakdown and equity context. Negotiation expected and welcomed.
