Small, senior teams with clear ownership. You'll know who decides what, and your scope is honest.
You'll lead one of our delivery squads — typically 6 to 10 engineers, embedded with a product manager and a designer, working on a single customer or product line. We staff our squads thick rather than spread thin: you'll own one outcome, not three.
You'll report to the Director of Engineering and partner closely with product and design leadership. We expect managers to stay close to the code, write clearly, and protect their team's focus aggressively.
What you'll do
We hire for outcomes, not tasks. Here's what success looks like in your first year.
Coach, grow and retain a team of 6 to 10 engineers across IC1 to senior levels
Partner with product and design on a quarterly roadmap that actually ships
Own delivery quality, reliability and on-call health for your squad's surface area
Run a generous, rigorous performance cycle — clear expectations, real feedback, no surprises
Lead hiring for your squad, from JD to onboarding plan, and bring in 2 to 4 great hires per year
Stay close to the code — review RFCs, contribute to architecture decisions, sometimes write a small fix
What you'll bring
If you don't tick every box, please apply anyway. We hire for trajectory, not a literal checklist.
Compensation
Transparent, top-of-market, and adjusted thoughtfully for region of residence.
$110K – $160K
$110K – $160K base salary, calibrated to seniority and region of residence
Stock options
0.15% – 0.30% in stock options, four-year vesting with a one-year cliff
Performance
Annual manager bonus targeting 15% of base, tied to team and squad outcomes
Interview process
Predictable, respectful, and fast. We aim for a clear decision within three weeks of your first conversation.
Our promises
A relaxed conversation about your story, management philosophy and what kind of teams you build.
Walk through one team you've built and led — how you hired, how you coached, what shipped, what hurt. Expect frank questions on tough situations.
We want managers who can hold a technical conversation. Expect a systems-design or architecture discussion grounded in real Spalce problems.
Three sessions: a cross-functional conversation with product and design, a peer-manager interview, and a values + executive conversation.
Two reference conversations (one report, one peer) and a written offer with full comp, equity and onboarding plan.
